Frequently asked questions
Is Octocade free?
Yes. Octocade is free to play, with no account and nothing to install. It may show ads on the phones between rounds, never during play.
How many people can play?
From 1 to 8 players at a time. More people can watch, and anyone can join at the next round when a spot is free.
What do I need?
A screen with a web browser (a smart TV, or a laptop on the TV with HDMI) and a phone per player. Any recent iPhone or Android phone works.
Do I need a games console or an app?
No. The TV runs the game in its web browser and the phones are the controllers, also in the browser.
Does it work on my smart TV?
Most smart-TV browsers work. Some are slow; if the game stutters, connect a laptop with HDMI for smoother play. You can open the device check on your TV to see what it supports.
A phone cannot connect. What can I do?
- Put the phone on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
- Check the 4-digit code on the TV, or scan the QR code again.
- Some networks (offices, schools, some routers) block the kind of direct connection Octocade uses. Try a phone's mobile data or a home network.
Do players need to read?
Hardly at all. The games are about timing and choosing well, so small children and people who don't share a language can play together.
Why does my phone ask me to turn it?
The controller works sideways, like a gamepad. On iPhone, adding Octocade to the home screen gives a full-screen controller.
Which languages are there?
English for now.
What do you do with my data?
Very little. There are no accounts. See the privacy policy.
